Nicki Liszta

Artistic direction // Choreography

Nicki Liszta (*1980) // she, her // studied contemporary dance at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten, Tilburg, Netherlands. Since graduating in 2006, she has worked as a choreographer/director in the contemporary dance and theater scene. Since 2009 she has worked as Guest lecturer at various art universities. As artistic director of backsteinhaus production, she has realized numerous collaborations and in-house productions since 2008
different city and state theaters. In 2021, together with the five-person team from backsteinhaus production, she began to open the company as a production platform for contemporary dance and social practices.
In her work, Nicki Liszta is always looking for new ways to take dance out of its elitist and abstract niche. In terms of content, it deals with current socio-political and social discourses negotiates topics from a Eurocentric-critical and queer-feminist perspective. She combines this with an individual, constantly redefined movement language. Their style is often powerful and very consistent in form.

She is interested in designing absurd worlds with an authentic, immediate, often immersive aesthetic in the transition between dance and performance. The choreographies often use physical extremes, play with the creation of grotesque images and the shifting of supposed taboo zones.

Franziska Stulle

Management

Franziska Stulle (*1982) // she, her // studied European. Ethnology, sociology and English studies in Würzburg, where, in addition to her studies, she took on numerous directing, production and design assistants at various private theaters in Würzburg. From 2010 – 2013 she worked at the Lower Saxony State Theater in Hanover as a consultant to the directorate. In 2013 she took over the management of the Theater Rampe, and from the 2021/22 season until the change of management in 2023 she was part of the theater management. Since the 2023/24 season she has been part of the backsteinhaus produktion team as managing director. She views management as an opportunity to question and change what has already existed and takes great pleasure in planning and managing.

She views her work as a counterpart and catalyst to and for artistic work. She is motivated by enabling and designing projects and, above all, achieving a lasting improvement in financial structures within the theater landscape. She is fighting for adjustments to salaries and fees and thus for overcoming precarious working conditions. She is also interested in meeting artists in every production, guest performance and project. These insights allow them to continually redefine their own approaches. For her, a flexible approach to every new situation is one of the main attractions of managing the company.
